Welcome to Manuel Antonio

Manuel Antonio National Park is one of the smallest in Costa Rica but one of the most visited, protecting a spit of rainforest and a series of golden-white beaches on the central Pacific coast. The park is home to three-toed sloths, white-faced and squirrel monkeys, coatis and iguanas, all easily seen on short trails.

Outside the park, the road winds up and down the hill between Quepos and the beaches, lined with hotels, restaurants and viewpoints with stunning sunsets. Mangrove tours, river rafting, catamaran cruises and zipline tours are all available nearby.

It can be busy and a bit touristy, particularly in the dry season, but the combination of beach, wildlife and ease of access makes it the most popular stop on Costa Rica's Pacific coast. Visiting early in the morning gives the best wildlife viewing.

Packing by Season and Trip Type

Most packing advice is a list of things. This is the opposite: the small number of decisions that determine whether your luggage helps or hinders, organised by the kind of trip you are actually taking.
