Welcome to Boracay
Boracay is a small island, about 7 km long and less than 1 km wide, off the north-west tip of Panay island. It is the Philippines' most famous beach destination, thanks to White Beach, a 4-km stretch of fine, powdery sand that is among the best in Asia. In 2018, the government closed the island for six months to tackle sewage and overdevelopment, and today it operates with stricter rules on waste, building and beach use.
White Beach is divided into three stations. Station 1 is the quietest and most upscale, Station 2 the busiest, with D'Mall shops and restaurants, and Station 3 the most laid-back. In the evening, the beach fills with fire dancers, beach bars and dining tables in the sand. On the other side of the island, Bulabog Beach has strong winds for kitesurfing and windsurfing from November to April.
Other highlights include Puka Shell Beach on the north tip, a quieter beach of coarse sand and shells, island-hopping tours, the sunset paraw sailing boats that glide on the water, and diving off the island. The island is small enough to see in three days, and it is best in the dry season.
